Big lessons for brighter tomorrows.
Small Grit Stories began with a simple belief:
Some of the biggest lessons can be found in the smallest stories.
Founded by educator and author Jason Sharpe, Small Grit Stories creates children's books that explore confidence, resilience, courage and self-belief through memorable characters and engaging stories.
Our characters aren't superheroes.
They don't always win.
They aren't necessarily the cleverest, fastest or strongest person or "bicycle" in the room.
They're ordinary characters facing challenges children can recognise.
And little by little, they discover what they're capable of.
What does “grit” mean to us?
For us, grit isn't about forcing children to carry on regardless of how they feel.
It isn't about pretending that difficult things aren't difficult.
It's about discovering that setbacks don't have to define us.
It's the courage to try.
The confidence to make mistakes.
The resilience to begin again.
And sometimes, it's simply taking one more small step.
Those are the stories we want to tell.
Meet Jason Sharpe
Jason Sharpe is an educator, author and entrepreneur from North Somerset, England, with a passion for helping children develop confidence, resilience and belief in themselves.
After starting his career as a teacher, Jason went on to build an education business that supports children and young people with learning, confidence, and additional educational needs.
Years of working with children and families showed him how easily children can begin to believe that struggling means they're failing.
Small Grit Stories grew from a desire to challenge that idea.
Jason wanted to create stories in which characters weren't always the best, didn't always win, and sometimes found things genuinely difficult, but discovered that progress was still worth celebrating.
His first children's book, Brian the Borrowed Bicycle, brings that philosophy to life through the unlikely story of a borrowed bicycle entering a school bike race.
Jason lives and works in North Somerset.
